Descrizione: Una mostra da non perdere per gli amanti dei tesori archeologici e per quelli delle mostre mozzafiato. Questi capolavori, provenienti dal Museo di Kabul, sono stati salvati grazie allo staff del Museo stesso, che per vent’anni li ha conservati nella cassaforte del palazzo presidenziale di Kabul. Grazie a loro, tesori unici e bellissimi sono ora visibili al resto del mondo. La mostra e’ alla sua ultima tappa dopo aver girato tutti gli Stati Uniti. Dunque accorrete fino a quando viene ospitata al Metropolitan. Sono sei sale di meraviglie che non potrete dimenticare.

Description: Ancient Afghanistan—at the crossroads of major trade routes and the focus of invasions by great powers and nomadic migrations—was home to some of the most complex, rich, and original civilizations on the continent of Asia. This exhibition will celebrate the unique role of Afghanistan as a center for both the reception of diverse cultural elements and the creation of original styles of art that combine multiple stylistic materials—such as the Hellenized examples from the second-century B.C. city of Aï Khanum, the array of trade goods found in the first-century city of Begram, and the astonishing nomadic gold found in the hoard at Tillya Tepe, which also dates to the first century. It will also commemorate the heroic rescue of the heritage of one of the world’s great civilizations, whose precious treasures were thought to have been destroyed. Among the highlights of the exhibition will be gold vessels from the Tepe Fullol hoard; superb works and architectural elements from Aï Khanum; Indian-style sculptural masterpieces in ivory, plaster medallions, and Roman glass from Begram; and extraordinary turquoise-encrusted gold jewelry and ornaments from the tombs at Tillya Tepe. Descrizione: Primo sabato del mese… la festa e’ qui, al Brooklyn Museum. L’entrata e’ gratuita e dalle 5 del pomeriggio avrete modo di partecipare a molti eventi, fra cui dimostrazioni musicali, Film e spettacoli, visite guidate, presentazioni e persino una fest finale in cui si danza nel salone centrale del Museo. Per l’occasione, il Museo offre persino da mangiare e bere. Insomma, una vera e propria festa offerta da un bellissimo Museo e a cui potete portare tutti gli amici che volete! Anzi, piu’ siamo, meglio e’!

Description: The Brooklyn Museum’s Target First Saturdays event attracts thousands of visitors to free programs of art and entertainment each month. In a month of earth-centered festivals, the Brooklyn Museum celebrates the landscapes in its permanent collections and in the special exhibition Gustave Caillebotte: Impressionist Paintings from Paris to the Sea, with programs inspired by the environment and the radical spirit of the Impressionists. Highlights of this Brooklyn-style Mayfest include interactive Eco-Art demonstrations; a screening of Pee-wee’s Big Adventure; and an African pop dance party with DJ Franco.

MAY 2 SCHEDULE OF PROGRAMS

5-7 p.m. Eco-Art Demonstrations:
Visitors are invited to turn their garbage into art and flowers by participating in outdoor demonstrations of recycled art making with RePlayGround and urban composting with Greenbridge. Ride your bike to the event and get a free repair lesson from Time’s Up!

5:30-7:30 p.m. Music:
Blending indie-rock with traditional Latin instrumentation, Pistolera’s sound traverses musical borders with politically conscious, danceable Spanish songs.

5:30-6:30 p.m. Film & Performance:
The Puppeteers’ Cooperative presents a puppet show that combines folk pageantry, parades, and earth-friendly themes. This performance will be preceded by the film El Ultimo (2003, 2 min.), a claymation short by Triqui children about the very last ear of corn. Free tickets are available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m.

6:30-8:30 p.m. Hands-On Art:
Participants are invited to draw from a live model and to be inspired by the work of Hernan Bas. Free timed tickets are available at the Visitor Center at 5:30 p.m.

7 p.m. Film & Discussion:
Filmmaker Laura Hanna and activist farmer and director Severine von Tscharner Fleming share a sneak preview of scenes from The Greenhorns, their documentary about the young American farmer movement, and discuss the art of farming from a woman’s perspective. Free tickets are available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m.

7 p.m. Young Voices Gallery Talk:
Student Guides give a conversational gallery talk on Gustave Caillebotte.

7 p.m. Film:
Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (Tim Burton, 1985, 90 min., PG), the classic love story of a man and his bike. Free tickets are available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m.

8 p.m. Artist Talk: Valerie Hegarty
Valerie Hegarty, a Brooklyn-based artist featured in the exhibition 21: Selections of Contemporary Art from the Brooklyn Museum, discusses her work. Sign Language-interpreted. Free tickets are available at the Visitor Center at 7 p.m.

9 p.m. Target First Saturdays Book Club:
Join local food advocate, teacher, and author Leda Meredith in a discussion about Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food.

9-11 p.m. Dance Party:
DJ Franco shares his rare vinyl collection and spins vintage West African disco and highlife.

Throughout the evening, a cash bar will offer beer and wine, and the Museum Café will serve a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, and beverages. The Museum Shop will remain open until 11 p.m.

Some Target First Saturday programs have limited space and must be ticketed; lines for free tickets often form 30 minutes in advance. Members may pick up tickets from the Membership Desk beginning at 2 p.m. while supplies last. Programs are subject to change without notice. Museum galleries are open until 11 p.m. Parking is a flat rate of $4 from 5 to 11 p.m.

Se non siete mai saliti sulla terrazza del museo, bisogna assolutamente farlo ora: tra i tubi contorti e scintillanti al sole, si scorgono viste impareggiabili dello skyline newyorkese. La terrazza del Metropolitan e’ aperta dalle 10 fino all’orario di chiusura del Museo. E’ possibile bere e mangiare sandwiches.

Description: At the Metropolitan Museum, on the terrace at the fifth floor, from April 28th to October 25th (weather permitting) you will find an art installation that is forest and an epileptic seizure. If you never climbed on the museum’s terrace, you should definitely do it now: among the swirling and shiny pipeline, you’ll catch a breathtaking glimpse of the New York skyline. (Marta Mondelli)

From Metropolitan Museum web-site: American artist Roxy Paine (b. 1966) has created a 130-foot-long by 45-foot-wide stainless-steel sculpture, especially for the Museum’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. Giving viewers the sense of being immersed in the midst of a cataclysmic force of nature, Maelstrom (2009) is Paine’s largest and most ambitious work to date. The latest in a diverse body of work, this sculpture is one of the artist’s Dendroids based on systems such as vascular networks, tree roots, industrial piping, and fungal mycelia. Set against Central Park and its architectural backdrop, the installation explores the interplay between the natural world and the built environment amid nature’s inherently chaotic processes.

Beverage and sandwich service will be available from 10:00 a.m. until closing, including Friday and Saturday evenings.

Descrizione: Grande mostra dedicata al lavoro dell’Impressionista francese Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894). Erano piu’ di trent’anni che il lavoro di Caillebotte non veniva presentato a NY. La mostra presenta paesaggi cittadini e scene di vita all’aria aperta sulle coste della Normandia e nei villaggi rurali di Yerres e Petit Gennevilliers, dove l’artista e la sua famiglia possedeva terreni. Focus soprattutto sui dipinti in cui l’acqua gioca un ruolo centrale.

Description: The first major showing of the work of the French Impressionist Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894) to be presented in New York in more than thirty years features the artist’s well-known Parisian cityscapes alongside his painted scenes of outdoor life on the coast of Normandy and in the rural villages of Yerres and Petit Gennevilliers, where he and his family maintained estates. The exhibition will explore for the first time how these paintings express Caillebotte’s passion for subjects in which water plays a central role.

The Polar Rink at the American Museum of Natural History - NY

Descrizione: New York possiede varie piste di pattinaggio; la piu’ famosa e’ senza dubbio quella al Rockfeller Center. Da quest’anno, una nuovissima pista si e’ aggiunta alla lista e promette momenti indimenticabili. Il luogo e’ il terrzzo dell’American Museum of Natural History, uno dei musei piu’ belli della citta’. La pista sovrasta il Rose Center for Earth and Space ed e’ attorniata dal piccolo parco chiamato Theodore Roosevelt. A tenere compagnia ai pattinatori un orso polare enorme illuminato, le stelle e l’atmosfera della citta’ d’inverno.

Description: Come enjoy the American Museum of Natural History’s new state-of-the-art skating rink, opening November 22. Located on the Arthur Ross Terrace on the Museum’s north side, The Polar Rink offers magnificent views of the glowing Rose Center for Earth and Space and is surrounded by Theodore Roosevelt Park. Skaters will glide around a 17-foot-tall polar bear festooned with pine boughs and twinkling lights. Non-skaters will enjoy the splendor of The Polar Rink from surrounding benches on the Terrace under trees adorned with lights, or from the glassed-in North Galleria adjacent to the rink, where hot cocoa and snacks will be served. Descrizione: La prima mostra monografica dedicata ad un artista poco conosciuto, Andrea Riccio, uno degli scultori piu’ importanti e prolifici del Rinascimento. In due deliziose salette dell’ancora piu’ deliziosa Frick Collection, 31 opere del Maestro, 3 bronzi appartenenti – si pensa – ad alcune composizioni dell’artista andate perdute, e due sculture di terracotta. Una scusa in piu’ per passare qualche ora in uno dei piu’ rilassanti e rasserenanti musei di New York.

Description: The first monographic exhibition dedicated to Andrea Riccio (1470–1532), one of the most creative sculptors of the Renaissance. On view, thirty-one autograph works representing every phase of Riccio’s career, three bronzes believed to be derived from the artist’s lost compositions, and two life-size terracotta sculptures. Descrizione: Un museo delizioso, pieno di alcune delle opere piu’ belle dei piu’ grandi artisti europei contornate da porcellane e mobili francesi del Settecento, Limoges, Tappeti orientali e altre preziose gemme. Un ottimo posto dove rilassarsi dopo una lunga camminata e dove riappacificarsi col mondo. Da non perdere assolutamente!
